Making Money Online is Hard Work - Here's How to do it.

First Step - Keywords
So as I mentioned yesterday, great if you have a website. Problem is you can sit for the rest of forever and not get a single visitor to your site. So! What can you do?

Most people have heard of keywords. A keyword is something, someone searching on the internet might enter into a search engine. For e.g. "car parts". Try this yourself and there will be millions of sites that appear on your list to choose from. You could go through several and spend considerable time before you found what you were looking for.

In order to be more specific you could try : Car parts for a BMW Z3, that would narrow things down considerably but you would still have millions of sites to choose from and you still haven't been specific enough.
Now, what your looking for is a company who can supply you with a part for your BMW Z3 within you local area. The next search on the list would be e.g. "body parts for BMW Z3 in Bristol" Now your'e getting somewhere. Not only have you found local retailers but you have changed the wording to body parts as you are looking for a bumper and not a radiator.
This is what is termed an "Organic Search"using a "Long Tailed Keyword".
Applying this theory to your particular website you
will have customers viewing your website who are

very specific in what they're are looking for, thereby, streamlining customers who are there because they actually need to buy your product rather than just looking around.
What are Long Tail keywords?

Long tail keywords are simply multi-phrase search queries which visitors use on search engines to arrive at your website. These longtail keywords are much more targeted than the general keywords and will bring the customer to the specific area they nare looking for.
Here is an example. ‘Credit Cards‘ is the general keyword and long tail keywords within this niche includes terms such as the following:

• credit cards for people with bad credit
• low interest credit cards
• benefits of small business credit cards
• good credit cards for students

These long tail keywords are actual search queries, therefore optimizing your site and creating content to match these search queries will allow you to attract visitors who search for information via these and similar search terms.
Tomorrow we will look at the reasons why you should optimise your site for long tailed keywords and how to do so.
